Smart Manufacturing
The emergence of Industry 4.0 and the adoption of digital transformation technologies are advancing rapidly, as manufacturers grapple with rising labor costs, inventory management challenges, and workforce shortages. Under traditional management models, tracking and managing the flow and location of personnel and materials is often difficult—yet this very issue remains one of the key constraints hindering improvements in production efficiency.
Smart factory personnel and asset positioning primarily relies on high-precision positioning technologies such as UWB and AOA. By deploying a limited number of Base Stations throughout the plant, equipment is tagged with asset tags, and personnel wear work‑card tags, enabling real-time, accurate location tracking of both people and equipment within the facility. This facilitates safety‑zone management and fine-grained asset management for supervisors. Precise control, grounded in lean manufacturing, enhances enterprise management and production efficiency through rational scheduling and optimization.
Background Requirements
The advent of Industry 4.0 and the adoption of digital transformation technologies are advancing rapidly, as manufacturers grapple with rising labor costs, inventory management challenges, and workforce shortages. Under traditional management models, tracking and managing the flow and location of personnel and materials is often difficult—yet this very issue remains one of the key constraints hindering improvements in production efficiency.

Functional Applications

Real-time positioning of personnel, equipment, and materials
The system leverages a three-dimensional digital map to display the real-time locations of personnel, equipment, and materials. Its visualization platform provides live updates on the categories, quantities, and statuses of various tags, enabling unified allocation and efficient coordination among people, machines, and materials.

Material Search and Location
By entering a material name or code into the management platform, users can quickly locate the material. The system highlights and flashes the material’s location and associated information on the visual interface, while the material tag emits an audible beep and flashes to indicate its position. This reduces search time and labor costs, enhancing overall material‑management efficiency.

Regional Material Statistics
The system supports counting material quantities within predefined location zones, enabling real-time monitoring of material distribution and status. This helps improve production and delivery efficiency, facilitates intelligent resource allocation and optimal utilization, and ultimately enhances cost control.

Quick Material Binding and Unbinding
By using a scanning device, users can quickly scan the material code and the Location Tag code, link the material to the tag, and enter the information into the Positioning System. The tags can be reused for new materials, reducing production costs while improving production efficiency.

Intelligent Early Warning for Key Areas
The system can monitor workplace safety in real time, including surveillance of hazardous areas and response to emergency situations. When the system detects violations—such as leaving one’s post, sleeping on duty, unauthorized movement between posts, staff shortages, overcrowding, or gatherings—it immediately issues an alert and transmits the warning to relevant managers or the system itself.

Work Efficiency Data Analysis
The system allows users to freely define process‑specific workstations and automatically tracks the throughput times of personnel, equipment, and materials at each stage. This data can be visually analyzed and presented in charts, enabling users to gain deeper insights into time consumption and identify efficiency bottlenecks throughout the production process.
Value Highlights
Based on the characteristics of manufacturing plants, digitalization and informationization efforts should be grounded in production safety and aimed at enhancing efficiency and profitability. By implementing a personnel and material positioning system, it is possible in the short term to achieve scientific, refined management of people, vehicles, and assets, thereby mitigating safety risks. In the long term, the substantial data accumulated can serve as a valuable data asset tailored to the enterprise’s specific needs, helping to streamline critical production processes, optimize resource allocation, and boost efficiency and returns.
